Kiera is back on her rate of 16 with O2 at 3liters and still on 4 hour nebs and steroids. She made me laugh this morning at around 6am when she decided to be UP and stood up in her crib and started removing all the rail guards and tossing them. In the silhouette of the closet light, her hair was standing on end in a sort of "Flock of Seagulls" updo. When she does this, she often whines and grabs her suction catheter from the changing table to indicate that she would like some immediate suction assistance from her tired mother.
Another cute thing today...the nurse French braided her hair. It is so cute! Kiera has also developed a taste for Nacho Cheese Dorito's. She likes to lick the cheese off adult fingers. It's a start at least. She does open wide. :)

Kiera's NICU Days
I didn't start the blog till Kiera was 6 months old and in danger of dying; so here are some early days pics for those who didn't know her when she was so small.
Mommy's first chance to hold Kiera on day 2, just over the heated bed.
First Kangaroo Cuddle at 5 days old, 1 lb 6oz, she lost a little weight like all babies after birth.

In the 3 lb range, the blanket is a security blanket or burp cloth size, folded in half. When I got it as a gift before she was born, I thought, "What a ridiculously small blanket!" It ended up being just perfect for her.
Clothes my grandma knit for me, I'm about 4 lbs, watch me self extubate! :)
Halloween 2006, 4 lbs 4 oz, Mommy made a Tinkerbell Costume, Kiera was already "actual size."
Thanksgiving 2006 about 6 -7lbs, first 0-3 month sized outfit
Christmas 2006, 8-9 lbs, trach ties being used as head gear to try to keep her from extubating again before her trach surgery
January 26th 2007, post trach surgery, restraints to keep her from pulling on it, 10lbs, very puffy from steroids and pulmonary hypertension
Our Valentine in an induced coma after pulmonary hypertensive crisis, 2 wks after trach, 30% chance of survival
